Can You Pass the Ultimate Home Organization Quiz? Answer These 3 Questions!

Are you brave enough to take this home organization quiz? This should be fun!

I’ve got three important questions that I’ve started asking myself to try to help determine if our house is too cluttered, if it’s organized enough, and if that organization makes sense. Basically, if I can’t answer each of these questions with a “yes” then I still have some work to do.

It gets especially interesting when I apply these questions to paperwork and storage boxes. I think it’s fun to think about these things, and it’s actually quite useful as I’ve had circumstances where I really needed to find something quickly. Let me tell you, life is much less stressful when you can find exactly what you need when you need it.

You could even turn this into an organization “game” of sorts with your family and test each other on finding specific items!

Can You Pass the Ultimate Home Organization Quiz? Answer These 3 Questions!

1. Can you find it in 5 Minutes?

If it takes me more than 5 minutes to find something, I just know I’ll become stressed out and frustrated. When I’m looking something that I know we own but I can’t find it, I’ll probably end up buying a new one. If I’m looking for important paperwork that’s not replaceable, I’ll just get super stressed!

When we applied for our mortgage, all of the sudden we needed to dig out mountains of paperwork and they wanted it all right away. I was so happy to be able to find every single paper I needed within a few minutes! It made a task I was dreading easy.

This gets even harder when you are thinking about storage boxes. We’ve narrowed down our storage so much that I truly think I could find everything within 5 minutes, but that definitely didn’t used to be the case. Making sure that boxes are grouped in a way that makes sense and have detailed labels helps a ton!

2. Can you find it in the dark?

Have you ever had the power go out and you had to search for flashlights, candles, or matches in the dark? Or think of when someone in your family gets sick and you’re rummaging around trying to grab new sheets or medicine without waking others up by turning the lights on.

It’s a great test to see if you can find what you need in the dark!

3. Can you help someone else find it over the phone quickly?

This last question might be the hardest of all and I encourage you to actually test it! Your organization might make perfect sense to you, but it’s a mess to anyone else.

At one of my previous jobs, I had to dig through someone else’s desk while they explained to me over the phone where an important paper was. While his desk organization made perfect sense to him, it was a disaster and no amount of explanation could help me find the right paper. Frustrating!

Sometimes I’m away from home and need Austin to dig out some paperwork or I need to help him find something he needs. If I can’t easily explain the item’s location over the phone, it might not be organized very well or in a way that makes sense.
