Thanks so much for your comment! I absolutely love your idea giving the gifts of food - something to eat on Christmas morning is so thoughtful! So smart to shop all year round if you know what to get for people.

Hi Christine. Enjoyed this article. Have found over the years that if I shop for Christmas or any type gifts all year round that I save a lot of money. I watch for sales and bargains on eBay and keep a shelf or two in my closet for these items. Candles, pretty note pads, glittery pens. It works and I always seem to have something available to put into a gift bag. I keep coloring and sticker books at the ready for children and even buy discounted gift cards that I know I can give to a particular person. When Thanksgiving comes I have my cards ready to mail out, I start wrapping, decorating, and helping other people. Last year I decided to give food as a gift. I made a breakfast recipe for 3 different friends for them to eat on Christmas morning; the next week I delivered something for lunch; the following week they got a dinner item. It cost more than if I would have purchased gifts, but the response from each of them was overwhelming!
