Allow Me to Introduce Myself!

introductionHey y’all!

I started this blog almost a year ago and it has been a great experience for me.

It has been a huge lesson in perseverance and I have had to work hard to learn new skills. I’ve written over 130 blog posts and have started making a consistent (though fairly small) income from this site.

Anyways, I’ve gained quite a few consistent readers (I’m so glad you’re here!) and I wanted to kind of officially introduce myself and let you know a bit about me.

I’d love if you would leave a comment with a bit about yourself so that I can get to know you to!

10 Things You Might Not Know About Me

My Least Favorite Color is Blue

I have a hard time nailing down my favorite color (probably green or purple), but I know that my least favorite color is blue and here’s why:

I have a very vivid memory from middle school. I was looking at all of the clothes in my closet to find an outfit to wear and I realized that every single item in my closet was blue. All of it. There was not one non-blue item in there! Suddenly, blue seemed like such a boring color and I had nothing fun to wear. I stopped buying blue anything and have avoided the color ever since.

Ironically, the first house we bought was owned by a blue-lover. The walls, counters, and carpets were all blue!

I have purchased a few blue items in the last few years, but I’m extremely picky about the shade. It has to be a classy navy or more turquoise-y.

My Favorite Hobbies are Sewing & Walking

My grandma taught me how to sew when I was growing up. We sewed a small quilt and made clothes for my teddy bears.

I picked the hobby back up in college and have since sewed a lot of gifts, a few quilts, and altered clothes.

I love going for walks. In college, my parents moved to a house near a walking trail and my mom and I would walk it on nice days.

After Austin and I got married, we lived in an apartment on a lake. It was so relaxing to walk around the lake in the fall and winter.

When we bought our first house, I got Mozzie who has been the best walking buddy a girl could ask for. I walk him twice a day. He helps me get out and get some fresh air even in the winter.

I’m the Youngest of Two

I have a brother who is about two and half years older than me.

We grew up playing together and even hung out with the same group of friends in high school.

I’ve Been an Organizer & Declutterer since birth

I think it is so interesting how early in life our habits and tendencies can develop.

As a child, I loved organizing my bedroom.

I would go through each drawer and my closet, pull everything out, get rid of what I wasn’t using and organize it all back into place. If I hadn’t used something in six months, I’d declutter it. Funny, right?

I’ve Been Married for 6 Years after 2 Months of Dating & a 2 Month Engagement

Austin and I met because we had worked at a summer camp together. We were also dating people from the same family at the time (he was dating one of their daughters and I was dating one of their sons). So we had known each other for a few years, but not very well.

Anyways, a long time later, we connected and started hanging out. We only dated for two moths before Austin proposed. We had a super quick, two month engagement followed by a tiny, perfect wedding with only our closest family.

I’ve Never Eaten an Entire PB&J Sandwich

I took a bite of a PB&J when I was little and didn’t like it.

I’ve eaten many peanut butter sandwiches and I’ll have jam on toast, but never the two together. Peanut butter and jelly just don’t taste good together to me.

I Eat the Same Thing for Breakfast Every Morning

I love my routines. They comfort me and make me happy. And I love my morning cereal.

I eat Frosted Mini Wheats Little Bites Chocolate every morning. It’s got enough fiber, healthy stuff, and sugar to keep me satisfied. Plus, it’s important to me to start my day with chocolate 🙂 And coffee.

I’m a Dog Lover/Addict (not so much cats)

Seriously. I want to pet ALL THE DOGS. I basically fall in love with every dog I meet.

We had a golden retriever growing up named Sophie who was a fabulous dog. I couldn’t wait until Austin and I got our first house and we could have a dog of our own.

Mozzie pretty much lives the best life a pup can live. I spend all day, every day with him.

I have to say, I’m not a cat person at all. Growing up, we had a mean cat who would hide under our beds. When I walked buy she would jump out and claw my feet. I’m guessing this is where my dislike of cats started.

I’ve Been to the Philippines, Brazil, Honduras, & Canada

I love traveling. I went to the Philippines when I was 12 with my church youth group. It was an amazing experience and a beautiful country that I would love to go back to someday.

I went to Brazil when I was 16 before my senior year in high school (also with my church youth group). We got to spend time on the coast as well as in the rain forest.

In college, I went to Honduras with my family to visit family. They have this unpasteurized melty cheese that I could eat everyday for the rest of my life.

I’ve also been to Canada a few times. Given that I live in Michigan, which borders Canada, I don’t consider this to be a big deal but it is a different country. We went in high school once to go bowling as well as another time to go a Shakespeare festival.

My big dream is to go to Europe. I studied art history in college and I’m dying to see the art and architecture in Italy that I learned about.

I Have a Super Power

I drive Austin nuts with this, but I consider it to be my super power. I can watch the same TV shows and movies over and over and over again without ever getting sick of them.

I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve watched Gilmore Girls and Parks & Recreation.

I like to have the TV on for background noise while I’m home. I’m usually doing other things while the TV is on and I like to have something on that I’ve seen before so that I know what’s happening.

Plus, I can’t handle the suspense of a new show or movie very often. I don’t like not know what’s going to happen.

Hi Stacie! If you sign up in the right-hand column on the site where it says "Get Access to my Budget and Spending Tracker Spreadsheet". You don't have to keep the budget tracker if you're not interested, but entering your email and confirming it will add you to my email list. Thanks so much for reading!!

I've been following you casually on social media for a while because I get inspiration from your decluttering and budgeting posts. It was nice to learn some more about you! I've just taken up sewing and am loving all of the different things I can create. I'd love to see more of what you've sewn - maybe you'd be up to share some how-to's on the blog? And I'm jealous that you're a natural organizer/declutterer. I love an organized space, but I am the worst at maintaining organization.

Thanks for commenting!!! I usually sew from free tutorials I find online. I love the tutorials on noodle-head.com. And hey, maintenance is the keep to staying organized. If you already realize that, you're on your way to staying decluttered and organized!

I love this! My parents were quick to get married as well. They only knew each other for 6 weeks before saying, "I do!" They have now been married for 30 years! Something you would not know about me is when I was 11, I broke my thumb bowling.... Now I cannot give a proper right thumbs up when deserved. But it makes for a great story! haha!

Bowling injury? That's crazy Erin! Bowling is generally considered a safe sport :)

You are so hilarious!? And your wedding pic is beautiful! I like your love story. I'm probably old enough to be your mom, but if I lived near you we'd be bffs ?. I started following you a few months back because I find your posts refreshingly real. I too am enjoying my own path to minimalism and love it. Also just starting to blog. Thanks for your tips!

Hey!!!! I hail from Michigan too! I hate the cold and snow and someday will drive away from it in my motor home and stick my toes in the sand and enjoy the sunshine and sea breeze on my face!

I did not know you only have been blogging only a year! Your stuff is so well written and interesting and I read everything you write!

I am starting a blog and hope to build it into an interesting read and meet lots of readers along the way!

Thanks so much Sonia! I can usually handle the cold and snow, but I need about 10x the sunshine! Though I certainly wouldn't mind if life took us somewhere warmer :)
